Hiring or Promoting a Law Enforcement Executive?

If your local government or law enforcement agency is considering hiring or promoting a law enforcement executive for your community, the MPCA can help. As a service to Missouri communities to promote law enforcement professionalism, the MPCA offers a free assessment panel of law enforcement professionals to help assess your candidates for hiring or promotions.

The only cost to the municipality or agency is for travel expenses for the members of the MPCA Assessment Panel (usually three to five individuals). The Assessment Panel will help you and your community/agency by providing an objective assessment of the candidates for the position. The panel will evaluate each candidate for one to two hours and provide you with a complete evaluation on each candidate.

Assessment Techiques

The Assessment Panel may employ any combination of the following techniques to evaluate your candidtates:

• In-basket excercise
• Out-basket exercise
• Leaderless group discussion
• Hostile media interview
• Meeting with hostile minority goups regarding police procedures
• Group luncheon or dinner observation
• Candidate's anticipated accomplishments in the first 30 days
• Candidate's expectations for accomplishments within the first 12 months
• Candidate's perception of the community and the police department
• Candidate's perception of the hiring process
• Employee diciplinary action
