Web Based Training Program

Overview

The web based training program is presenting in-service training for Law Enforcement officers with the first classes having been available on the 1st of September 2001.

The service will provide a full in-service training program that will allow a user to obtain the minimum POST 3 year requirement of 48 hours of training each and every calendar year.

The programming will allow for individual officers to log on to an Internet based training site with a user name and password. Initial screens will then display the officer’s personal information.

The officer will then proceed to a course overview that will show all the courses that are available for the officer to take as well as a list of courses that have already been completed and a list of courses that are "in progress". The officers will then be able to sign up for new courses or continue with courses that have already been started.

        1.    Course overview

    1. The course overview will show how many sections of that training program have been completed and a simple click on a button will take the officer to the next required section of that training program.
    2. Checking the over all course will allow officers to download handouts, lesson plans and other related documents available with that course for review, printing etc.

        2.    Course material

    1. Each course will have a short pre-test and post-test based on the material presented.
    2. Each course will have all documentation available in various formats for review on the computer, printing to paper etc.
    3. Each course will have video "classroom" presentations. These presentations will be broken into 15 minute blocks of training.
    1. Each 15 minute block of instruction will have to be reviewed and an appropriate computer input made within a given amount of time in order to get credit for that block of instruction. If for some reason the officer has to leave the system (called away for duty related circumstances etc.) the system will automatically require that the officer re-take that 15 minute block of instruction before progressing to the next step in the training.
    2. On completion of each block of training, the system will automatically update the status of the training.
    3. Once the entire course has been completed, the system will credit that officer with the completed course, a database will be updated with the new training hours, and a certificate will be printed indicating completion of the course. The officer will then receive that certificate in the mail.

        3. Training management

    1. The database will maintain a "running total" of training hours and category of training completed. Reports will be available on request by an authorized supervisor/manager and can be sorted by individual officer, by division and by department.
